Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) have introduced the Health Data Use and Privacy Commission Act to modernize health data use and privacy policies in the US. The legislation aims to establish a commission that will provide recommendations to Congress on updating health information privacy laws. The bill is supported by industry representatives, including athenahealth, Epic, IBM, and Teladoc Health. The proposed commission would review existing protections for personal health information, assess the effectiveness of existing regulations, and draft recommendations for Congress on necessary legislative changes.
