Skin Repaired Faster, with Less Scarring, in Mice Treated with Gut Worm Protein

Rutgers University researchers have discovered that a protein from an intestinal nematode parasite could be used to enhance wound healing and reduce scarring. The protein, known as TGM, was applied to skin wounds on mice, resulting in faster wound closure, improved skin regeneration, and inhibited scar tissue formation. The team noted that further research is required to study its applicability in human patients.
