SonicWall presents 2023 Midyear Threat Report
In the first half of 2023, cyber criminals shifted to quieter attacks, focusing on crypto-jacking, IOT malware and encrypted threats. Ransomware attacks dropped by 41% but signs suggest a potential resurgence. Overall malware volumes stayed stable, but the U.S. experienced a 12% decrease while Europe and LATAM showed double-digit growth. Education and finance sectors were heavily targeted. SonicWall documented a total of 3.7 trillion global intrusion attempts despite a decrease in moderate and high severity attempts. India saw an alarming 311% increase in IOT malware volume.
