State data center saves on backups – total data loss
A data center in Indonesia was attacked and partially encrypted with ransomware on June 20, forcing the President to order audits of state data centers. As no back-ups were saved due to cost reasons, the data could not be restored. The ransom demanded is reportedly $8 million. In response, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi, has mandated future back-ups and refused to pay the ransom.
