State-sponsored hackers exploit WinRAR flaw

State-supported Russian and Chinese hackers have exploited a fixed vulnerability in the WinRAR utility for Windows, according to cybersecurity firm Group-IB. Over 130 traders have fallen victim to this exploit, with significant financial and data losses. Rarlab, creator of WinRAR, released an update to address this issue, however, persistent hacking attempts still exploit unupdated software. Google’s Threat Analysis Group ties the exploit to notorious hacking groups including Russia’s Sandworm and Fancy Bear. Regular software updates are encouraged to protect systems against these threats.
