Stealthier version of P2Pinfect malware targets MIPS devices
The P2Pinfect malware, discovered in July 2023, is upgrading and now targets devices with 32-bit MIPS processors, including routers and IoT devices. The new variant employs elaborate evasion mechanisms and propagation techniques via SSH servers. It’s unclear what the ultimate goal of the malware’s operators is, but possibilities include cryptocurrency mining, triggering DDoS attacks, data theft and traffic proxying.
