STING protein plays new role in cellular stress clearance and survival

A protein named STING, recognised for its role in antiviral signalling and inflammation, also plays a key part in stress clearance and cell survival, according to a study in Molecular Cell. When STING is activated, it increases the production of lysosomes, vital in cellular recycling processes, and autophagy, connected to health and longevity. This discovery could impact the treatment of age-related diseases, with selective targeting of inflammation-based functions better preserving STING’s beneficial attributes.
