Stockport’s new AKI digital alerts improving patient care
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust has seen “dramatic” improvements in renal care thanks to an IT alert system aimed at flagging up acute kidney injuries (AKI). The system, which was developed and deployed by the trust 18 months ago, saw a 40% rise in AIK patients receiving an initial test within 24 hours, and a 10% increase in stopping potentially harmful medicine sooner. Deaths from AKI in the UK hit 100,000 a year, of which up to 30% could be avoided with better care.
