Strokes and Heart Problems Linked by Immune Epigenetics

A stroke can lead to cardiac damage due to systemic inflammation development, according to researchers at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. The scientists found that systemic inflammation occurs after a stroke, causing chronic, potentially fatal conditions such as cognitive impairment, depression, heart issues and stroke-linked metabolic disturbances. The team determined that pro-inflammatory monocyte trafficking can be inhibited to prevent post-stroke heart problems.
