The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a request by CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield to review a breach case from 2014 that exposed the data of almost 1.1 million patients. The case will now head back to the Washington federal trial court and could set a precedent for future breach cases. The decision leaves the definition of harm for breach victims to be decided by lower courts. CareFirst argued that the case could set a dangerous precedent, leading to a flood of future breach lawsuits against companies in all sectors.
