Supreme Court rules UK trade union laws breach workers’ rights
The UK Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that the Tory government violated duties concerning the right to partake in legal strikes in a landmark industrial action case. The decision comes from the case of Fiona Mercer, a care worker suspended in 2019 for participating in a strike. The court highlighted the current lack of protection against sanctions other than dismissal intended to discourage union members from lawful strikes. This judgement is considered a victory for employees challenging unfair employer actions.
