Suspected China-linked hackers target Guyana government with new backdoor

Cybersecurity firm ESET has detected cyber espionage targeted at government agencies in Guyana through a previously unknown backdoor, named DinodasRAT, created to harvest sensitive information. The infiltrations were detected in February 2023 during a period of strained diplomatic relations with China. The threat actor crafted emails related to Guyanese politics to lure victims into downloading malware from a compromised Vietnamese government website.
