Cybersecurity firm Symantec has found strong connections between the infrastructure and tools used in the WannaCry ransomware attack and the hacking group Lazarus. Lazarus was responsible for the hack on Sony Pictures and the theft of $81m from the Bangladesh Central Bank. However, cybersecurity think tank ICIT has called Symantec’s report “premature, inconclusive and distracting”. Symantec maintains that parts of WannaCry’s malware variants evolved from Lazarus’ tools but cannot definitively say if it was the group acting alone.
