Teaching hospitals are prime targets for data breaches
Larger hospitals and those with major teaching status are at the highest risk for data breaches, according to a report by the Journal of the American Medical Association. The report found that hospitals with greater access to data are being targeted by hackers. Over 200 hospitals were included in 1,798 breaches that occurred between 2009 and 2016. Healthcare was heavily targeted by cyberattacks in 2016, with more than 12 million records compromised.
