TEFCA: With greater simplification comes greater cybersecurity responsibility

The Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA), created by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, is looking to improve interoperability and information exchange in healthcare. However, this carries implications for privacy and security, with potential overlaps between TEFCA and HIPAA security incidents. Encouraging a wider use of interoperability resources could lead to greater security requirements, despite the second version of TEFCA not expecting significant updates to data exchange security.
