Although the use of non-HIPAA-compliant consumer platforms has been allowed, providers should invest in encrypted and password-protected teleconferencing means to safeguard patient information. Additionally, proper education and training for both providers and patients are essential to ensure the secure deployment and use of telehealth technologies. As remote patient monitoring becomes more prevalent, the volume of data and the risk of breaches will increase, requiring stronger protection measures.
