Temporary hospitals are rife with cybersecurity vulnerabilities

The rapid establishment of temporary medical units during the COVID-19 pandemic has created cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Hackers can exploit unprotected remote-care devices to steal personal health information and initiate attacks. Healthcare organizations must ensure that software is updated and patched, enable two-factor authentication, back up systems offline, and conduct practice exercises. Microsoft has expanded its security service program to help defend against cyberattacks, and advisories have been issued on protection from COVID-19-related phishing attacks. Temporary medical units, dependent on connected medical devices, are especially susceptible to cyber threats. Remote healthcare workers also pose risks.
