Ten new Android banking trojans targeted 985 bank apps in 2023

This year, ten new Android banking malware families emerged, targeting 985 banking and fintech apps in 61 countries. In addition to these new threats, 19 existing malware families were updated with more sophisticated capabilities. Among the trends detected by security firm Zimperium were automated transfer systems initiating transactions, cybercriminals posing as customer support agents, live screen-sharing, and malware subscriptions being sold to cybercriminals. Trojans are also moving beyond bank accounts and are beginning to target social media, messaging, and personal data. Users are advised to be wary of unsolicited links and unofficial app stores, among other precautions.
