Precision psychiatry and neurotyping are being explored as new methods for treating depression. The approach uses brain function indicators to create personalised patient categories which guide therapy. Clinicians can diagnose patient’s subtypes of depression using EEG wearables and a digital interface. Dr. Kazu Okuda, founder and CEO of Universal Brain, a start-up in California, is trialling a gamified neurofeedback treatment system which influences the brain activity linked with depression symptoms.
