Despite being an invaluable resource in combating rising summer heat, America’s many aging public pools are underfunded and strained, primarily due to budget constraints and an aversion to shared community spaces. 2022 saw a torrential downpour in Pittsburgh cause a mudslide that closed a popular community pool for extensive repairs. However, experts believe prioritizing and considering these facilities as crucial climate infrastructure could alleviate issues brought on by increasing urban population and rising temperatures.
