The ICO crack down on the NHS and employee curiosity
NHS employee Clare Lawson has been fined over £800 and lost her job after being prosecuted by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for breaching the Data Protection Act 1998 on multiple occasions between 2014 and 2016. The Southport and Ormskirk Hospital staff nurse had improperly accessed maternity, paediatric and other patient records on multiple occasions, including 44 instances when she viewed the blood results of a discharged friend. She admitted the breaches during her appearance at Bootle magistrates court.
