The rise in dental service recommendations from NHS 111

NHS dentistry is in crisis, with increased reports of public difficulty accessing services and resorting to at-home dentistry. The number of calls to NHS 111 requiring dental services doubled from March to May 2020, and has remained high since. A greater need for dental care is evident, particularly in “dental deserts” where no practices accept new NHS patients. The House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee has called for urgent reform of NHS dentistry.
