The Week in Ransomware – December 17th 2021

The Apache Log4j vulnerability is being exploited by threat actors to deploy ransomware attacks. The ‘Log4Shell’ exploit, which targeted vulnerable Minecraft servers, has led to a revival of the TellYouThePass ransomware. Other ransomwares such as Khonsari and Conti are also employing the Log4j vulnerability. In other news, Romanian police have arrested a ransomware affiliate and the Hive ransomware operation has emerged as a significant player after breaching hundreds of companies in four months.
