Thousands of blood test samples set to be destroyed after NHS cyberattack

A cyberattack on Synnovis, a pathology service provider in London, has caused the cancellation of operations and outpatient appointments, and is affecting GP services. The ransomware attack, suspected to have been carried out by Russian cybercriminals, has left the service provider only able to complete 400 blood tests a day, out of the usual 10,000, while approximately 8,000 blood samples risk being destroyed due to degradation. All phlebotomy appointments using Synnovis’ services have been cancelled until end of June.
