UC Irvine electronic patient-reported outcome tool reduces cancer care disparities

UC Irvine has used an ePRO (electronic patient-reported outcomes) tool in a multilingual format to aid early recognition of symptoms in racial/ethnic minority patients with cancer. The study focused on adult patients undergoing chemotherapy and offered personalized symptom management. The ePRO initiative was led by oncology pharmacists and resulted in a two-fold higher likelihood of reporting symptoms like pain and nausea. Moreover, 90% of the patients expressed satisfaction with the tool and the personalised care provided.
