The UC San Diego School of Medicine is being granted $9.5m by a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) program to investigate ways to prevent healthcare data breaches. The program, a part of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health’s DIGIHEALS initiative, aims to tackle the increasing issue of cybersecurity threats. The funding will specifically be used to study how to prevent and mitigate ransomware attacks, as the healthcare industry faced 344 data breaches in 2022.
