UK issues strategy to protect National Health Service from cyberattacks

The UK government aims to significantly harden the National Health Service’s (NHS) cybersecurity by 2030, following incidents like the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack. Neither this nor attacks on software supplier Advanced led to loss of life, but revealed the acute risks to healthcare provision. The strategy acknowledges ransomware as the main cyber threat and includes development of a product by 2024 to map the NHS’ most critical suppliers.
