UK tech tsar warns of AI cyberthreats posed to NHS

UK’s AI tsar, Ian Hogarth, warns that AI could be harnessed by cybercriminals to attack the NHS, potentially causing more disruption than the WannaCry ransomware or COVID-19. Advances in AI, especially in code writing, are lowering the barriers for such attacks. Hogarth called for greater international collaboration in addressing these risks. AI, categorized as a “chronic risk” in the National Risk Register 2023, may also be used to design pathogens and toxins.
