Barts Health NHS Trust, the UK’s largest NHS trust, is investigating a ransomware attack that resulted in a data breach involving 70GB of sensitive information including staff IDs and confidential communications. The data was found on the dark web site of ransomware gang BlackCat (ALPHV). This follows a similar breach at the University of Manchester in June, which exposed data on 1.1 million patients. Meanwhile, a report from Zscaler’s ThreatLabz indicates a 38% increase in ransomware attacks year on year.
