US lawmaker says FBI notified him of email breach linked to Microsoft cloud hack

US Congressman Don Bacon announced on Twitter that his personal and campaign email accounts were hacked due to a Chinese cyberattack that occurred between May and June. According to Microsoft’s initial report in July, the responsible group known as Storm-0558 breached several email accounts of various US organizations, forging authentication tokens through a now-fixed vulnerability in Microsoft’s cloud. The FBI’s late notification to victims is currently under scrutiny while a broader review is conducted into cloud-based identity and authentication infrastructure.
