UW Health nurses test AI tools for patient messaging

UW Health nurses are testing a large language model (LLM) to draft responses to patient queries in a pilot program with Microsoft and Epic. The AI system is used to create patient messages whilst keeping patient data secure. Over 75 nurses have used the technology to construct more than 3,000 messages. The aim is to explore the potential of AI to benefit healthcare and academic nursing.
