James Gfrerer, the nominee for the VA Chief Information Officer, testified before the Senate VA committee on improving communication and cybersecurity at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He plans to address the cybersecurity vulnerabilities that have put the VA on the Office of Inspector General’s high-risk list. Gfrerer also supports maintaining the legacy VistA EHR while transitioning to the new Cerner platform. He will use a “scorecard” method to monitor the progress of the EHR project and other IT work.
