An audit by the office of the Auditor-General has found that patient data stored in Victoria’s public health system is highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks. The audit exposed weaknesses in several health agencies and accessed patient data to demonstrate the risks. The report also highlighted deficiencies in how health services manage user access to digital records and the lack of formal user access reviews. The report called for urgent action to address the weak security culture among government staff and improve physical security in healthcare facilities. Additionally, the report recommended the development of specialist cybersecurity training for health sector staff.
