WannaCry ransomware attack on NHS was easily preventable
The National Audit Office (NAO) has slated the poor cybersecurity standards of the NHS, adding that May’s WannaCry ransomware attack could easily have been avoided. The NAO’s head, Amyas Morse, stated that the NHS needs to do more to halt future attacks having potentially lethal consequences. The UK Department of Health was aware of the risks of an attack one year prior to the WannaCry intention and, despite attempts to improve its digital security protocols, didn’t respond formally with a report until July. No NHS organisation has paid a ransom.
