WannaCry report shows NHS chiefs knew of security danger, but management took no action

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) needs suitable infrastructure to ensure computer security against cyber attacks, according to a report into the WannaCry ransomware attack on the service in May 2017. The attack revealed the problems of not updating software and providing secure firewalls. NHS Digital had already attempted to provide security alerts and the correct patches before WannaCry hit, however, the NHS needs top-level cyber security management to protect against further––possibly more sophisticated––attacks.
