A new study by Rapid7 found that 160 million computers, servers, and IoT devices have open ports that should not be exposed on public networks. Additionally, it was discovered that 4.6 million devices had the SMB port 445 vulnerability exposed in 2016, and even after the WannaCry attacks, 5.5 million devices still had exposed ports. Moreover, a BitSight report revealed that 15 percent of healthcare organizations are using outdated systems or browsers, putting them at risk. In response to the increased risk of cyberattacks, Microsoft has released security patches for Windows XP and Server 2003 users to protect against potential destructive attacks.
