Security experts have predicted that cybercriminals will shift ransomware tactics and targets in the coming year, with mobile endpoints and older bugs becoming more attractive for attacks. Threat research head, Kevin O’Connor, warned that threats are becoming more personal, with criminals using stolen data to put pressure on people and organisations. Meanwhile, John Dwyer predicted a bigger focus on smaller businesses and consumers, with enterprises increasingly choosing to rebuild rather than pay ransom. Other experts flagged a rise in mobile ransomware, increased targeting of account recovery methods, more dormant domains being exploited for cyberattacks, and an escalation in supply chain security issues.
