When medical devices get hacked, hospitals often don’t know it

Medical device recalls have increased by 126% in the first quarter of 2018, the highest on record, according to the Stericycle Recall Index. Many of the recalls were due to software issues, which pose a risk to patient safety. Legacy systems with hardcoded passwords are particularly susceptible to attacks, but even larger hospital networks with more resources are at risk. Security experts are calling for a change in mindset and better strategies to secure medical devices.
