Why U of Utah Health overhauled surgical tech pay

Salt Lake City’s University of Utah Health has shifted its approach to workforce management post-pandemic, prioritizing employee needs and goal alignment. CHR officer Christian Sherwood said the focus has been on fair treatment of employees and adopting new strategies. As part of this, a review of surgical tech positions resulted in changes to pay and compensation. The system also introduced an intermediate career ladder to encourage advancement. Looking ahead, Ms. Sherwood said they are considering new scheduling models to recognize challenging schedules and job difficulty.
