With Only Gloves To Protect Them, Farmworkers Say They Tend Sick Cows Amid Bird Flu

Concerns about bird flu are growing among farmworkers in Colorado, with many feeling they lack appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) beyond gloves. With bird flu circulating mainly among dairy cattle in the state, there’s anxiety about underreported worker illnesses due to inadequate testing. While protective kits are available to anyone who requests them, fewer than 13% of dairy farms have done so. The bird flu wave coincides with the state also dealing with Covid-19 issues.
