Wrong bodies released by NHS mortuaries dozens of times

Over 530 serious incidents involving the wrong body being released to families or the loss, damage, or unauthorized retention of organs or bodies have been reported by NHS trusts, according to newly released data. While rates of such incidents have been falling, over 100 families were affected in the year to March 2021. It is a common practice for trusts to employ cheaper, unqualified staff in mortuaries, a trend the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technology wants to reverse by requiring staff registration.
